My mums name was Joan this is our story 8 short films - Dementia -caring

In 2011 Tommy produced a short film in conjunction with Alzheimer Scotland. The video, which was later shown at the Scottish Parliament, includes families and carers reading from the letters they sent him during his dementia awareness tour of Scotland’s towns and cities.

The NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde's Patients' Stories Library for Hospital Staff aims to use patients’ and carers’ experiences to look at how acute services can be improved.
This interview was shown across a number of NHSGGC hospital sites during Carers Week 2013 to help raise awareness amongst staff about the importance of supporting carers in contributing to delivering person centred care.

The It’s Ok to Ask DVD produced by NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde, Glasgow City Council, The ALLIANCE and Alzheimer Scotland uses carers’ experiences to highlight the benefits of using carer support services in Glasgow, and encourages people to ask for help.

On 20th March 2013, members of the Scottish Parliament debated Jackie Baillie MSP’s parliamentary motion which highlighted the role played by those who care for the estimated 86,000 people in Scotland living with dementia, the challenges they face and the importance of supporting them wherever possible.

Tommy recently spoke to staff from the Care Inspectorate about his experiences as a carer, the difficulties he had getting the right services for his mum at the right time and how this led him to take his dementia awareness campaign "On Tour".

Tommy Whitelaw was interviewed as part of NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Glasgow City Council's "Start the Conversation" campaign, to explore why power of attorney is such an important issue.
