Speaking-Dementia Champion’s Celebration Event Middlesbrough March 28th

With great thanks to Helen Robinson Clinical Educator DementiaNursing & Patient Safety South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust for inviting me to speak at the Dementia Champions event Middelsbrough 

I look forward to attending and speaking about ,my mum Joan ,the letters I receive ,dementia ,caring and the people I meet on my tour

Dementia Champion’s Celebration Event

March 28th 2014, 08:30-1600 hours,
The David Kenwood Lecture Theatre and The Ian Haslock Lecture Theatre,
The Academic Centre, James Cook University Hospital,
TS4 3BW.

This is a FREE OF CHARGE event and LUNCH and REFRESHMENTS are provided courtesy of Carillion Plc.

At this event you will:

Join us to celebrate the achievements of all of the Dementia Champions.  Even the smallest of changes can make a difference;
Be able to meet with other Dementia Champions from all areas throughout the Trust;
Hear from leading innovators about how we are improving the care of people with Dementia, their families and carers;
Be inspired by being part of the Dementia Champion’s Network and be motivated to continue to grow.

The day is to be opened by Deborah Jenkins MBE, Chair of South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Speakers include:
Dementia Champions from throughout the organisation explaining what being a Dementia Champion means to them and the changes they have made;
Professor Maxine Craig speaking on Compassion In Organisational Life;
Sarah Martin, Operational Manager from SALT discussing dysphagia in Dementia;
Doctor Debbie Bathgate looking at Younger Onset Dementia and the unique problems encountered;
Tommy Whitelaw, a gentleman who lived a hectic lifestyle in the music industry: running global merchandising operations for the Spice Girls, McFly, Kylie and U2, before becoming a fulltime carer for his mum, Joan, who had vascular dementia;
Tony Jameson-Allen from Sporting Memories looking at reminiscence in sport to build bridges;
Dr Sarah Hopper, Consultant Clinical Psychologist ofTeeswide Liaison Psychiatry Service and other members of Tees Esk and Wear Valley NHS Foundation Trust, with practical advice on the role and impact of the acute mental health liaison service and an introduction to doll therapy;

During the lunch hour you will be able to walk around the various stalls available with representation from IMCA’s, telecare, wound care representatives, nutricia, my life software, Dementia charities, carer’s associations and more.

The summary and close of the event will be undertaken by Ruth Holt, Director of Nursing and Quality Assurance.
